Improving the Tamr experience
Tamr is a web-based platform that uses machine learning to help organize company data. To train the machine learning algorithm, Tamr relies on company administrators to answer complex questions.
However, there are times when administrators may not know the answer. Therefore, our task was to design a solution that would allow administrators to request and receive help from colleagues. The key challenge was to figure out how and where a colleague could provide that help. Moreover, our solution had to comply with several constraints imposed by the existing platform.
Tamr is an enterprise-scale data unification company headquartered in Cambridge, MA. This team project was completed to satisfy the sponsored project requirements for the Prototyping & Interaction Design (HF770) course at Bentley University. All work shown was the result of a collaborative effort.
THE CHALLENGE
Management at enterprise-scale
The number of questions company administrators may need to answer or assign to colleagues could be in the hundreds. Thus, administrators need to be able to efficiently delegate tasks. At the same time, colleagues should not be overburdened by administrators since answering these questions is not their full-time job.

BRAINSTORMING
Inspired by email
In our team brainstorming sessions, we gathered ideas rapidly. After sharing our thoughts, we placed our ideas into related groups. There, we found many of our proposed solutions were in fact inspired by email platforms.

PROTOTYPE
Colleague view
The colleague view consists of a simplified version of the Tamr platform that avoids overwhelming the user. Instead, colleagues are shown only the information necessary to complete their tasks.
Administrator view
The administrator view now allows the user to easily assign tasks to colleagues and keep track of what assignments have been completed or are in progress.
UI DESIGN
Style Guide
For consistency, both the administrator and colleague views conform to the revised style guide we developed. The new style guide complies with Tamr's existing branding while reducing distractions for users.
